This is the cheapest place we stayed at during three weeks in Japan, and it was very good value for money. We loved our stay at Kikunoya. Two little hassles - firstly, maybe some information when we arrived (maybe a written note) to explain about using the bathroom. Execlent location,100 meters from the rail & bus station. Friendly staff although very little to no english, but you can get by. While room is basic, it provides all that you would require for clean confortable and affordable stay. I would stay at this hotel again. ... more

This small village is 1h by bus from Kanazawa. It is rather expensive to come here as it cost me more than 30 EUR to go from Kanazawa to Shirakawago (1h) and then to Takayama (1h). This is expensive compared to other places I've been but in the mountains out here it seems normal. Not only transportation ...

We almost missed the ryokan when were looking for it as it is located in a narrow street. However, it's a great location. Very close to everything that is to be seen.
