El Calafate is a small town in Patagonia, in the southwest of the Santa Cruz Province of Argentina. It borders Lago Argentino and the town has seen a significant growth in tourism during the last decade or so, with an increasing number of inhabitants as a result.

Quite a hike out of the town center, we hadn't expected this place to be a YHA, and were positively surprised by how good it was. Very friendly service, good rooms, decent (buffet) breakfast. Minor niggles would be the wifi not quite reaching all the way till the rooms at the end of the hallway, and the shower curtain (I hate those things). ... more
