Urumqi

Urumqi (乌鲁木齐, ئۈرۈمچی), also written as Ürümqi, is the largest city and capital of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. For centuries Urumqi has been a stopping point along the Silk Road. Until recently Urumqi was a small trading post in the desert nestled next to the nearby mountains.

I feel very sorry about writing a bad review about a place I stayed. It is a place adviced by lonelyplanet. But we found it was not very clean, bathroom, toilet, dorm. and furthermore we were really disappointed by the staff. Not patient, not respectful, we were treated just as little children. We do not reccomend this place. Avoid. ... more

In general, I don't really like to stay in White Birch International Hostel. The price is bit too high for what I received. I don't know if any of you can find an accomdation under 40 RMB in Urumqi, the same price can allow me live in a nice hotel in Kashgar. ... more

All they have said is that prices will be in line with other Chinese proces (i.e. no premium). Basically, find a journey of similar legnth in terms of distance (Beijing - Kunming may work, but i'm guessing here. Somewhere like Urumqi may be better as it's a long one), plonk it into the railguide at www ...

This hostel was very nice with excellent staff. The room was spacious and they even had a/c. Unfortunately the internet was down but that was in all of the country per the June 5th incidences.
