I use to stay in Beit Arava (Eilat) once a while for about 10 years. Good location for travellers - next to central bus station. Has own parking zone. Nuweiba to Petra via ferry to Aqaba, or bus/taxi Taba/Eilat?
I haven't done this, but I think it will be slightly easier if you take the ferry, especially if you travel on a Friday or Saturday.
