Shangri-La County (香格里拉县 Xiānggélǐlā Xiàn) is the new Chinese name for this ancient Tibetan county, previously known as Zhongdian County (中甸县 Zhōngdiàn Xiàn) to the Chinese, and Gyalthang to the Tibetans.

A nice place out of town, which was ideal for me as I needed time-off to complete work. If you are only in Shangr-la for a short period it is not recommended. Warm showers (uses solar heating), comfortable mattresses and good food. Feels like you staying with locals. Good distance from the lake and the moutain if you are keen on some hiking. ... more
