Nagano Yudanaka Shimaya

Nagano Yudanaka Shimaya

Lovely traditional Japanese accomodation. Owners are very `hands-on` with all guests so if you prefer to be left alone, maybe reconsider. Mr. `Shimaya` offers to drive you all around town to let you see the sights, including the famous snow monkey park. The ryokan is located close to the station and a short walk from town. ... more

Chuoukan Shimizuya Ryokan

This Ryokan which is owned by an elder Japanese couple is lovely and quaint with many up, downs and nooks and crannies. As soon as we arrived we were taken to our room and treated to Japanese tea. The room was spacious and very clean. ... more

(Sara) We wanted to go skiing, and what better place to do that than where the 1998 Olympics took place. We took a train from Tokyo to Nagano, then about 1 1/2 hours further into the mountains into the area of Hakuba. This is where the downhill and ski jumping events at the Olympics took place. We ...

it seemed worth travelling the several hours required to get to Nagano Ken. So, with that in mind we set off about mid-day Friday for Nagano city (a local train to Kyoto, a Shinkansen to Nagoya and a Super-express train to Nagano). The monkeys actually live another train ride out from the prefectural capital ...

Nothing negative for me to pick on during my stay. The only thing I could pick on is climbing of the stair to the room.

Very quaint Ryokan in Nagano. I liked this place. Had tea in my room with the owner when I arrived, while filling out some paperwork. Sleeping on a futon atop a tatami mat was very comfortable.
