I fly into Rome on the 5th july and hop straight on a train to pompeii for 2 days, to check out the ruins sites and vesuvius.. after that i wanna do a day trip to paestum, but i dunno where to go after that!! everything on the amalfi coast is expensive and im on a backpacker budget! can anyone ...

Vatican City
Well you have to see Rome Venice Florence Naples and if you can Palermo. Other town less unknow but really nice are Bologna, Perugia Assisi, Genova, S. Giminiano (close Florence) Monteriggioni, Siena, Lecce, Prtofino, Pompei, Paestum ... ... man to many places ... depends on what you are looking ...

Areas to be aware of?
i can also recommend paestum in italy if youre going to pompeii, its not that well taken care of but its an easy half day trip with the train and its cheap to get in, and theyre pretty big temples!! appraently theyre the best preserved greek style temples outside of greece... ...
