We had a very nice stay in Hospedaria Por de Sol. Very friendly personal, good breakfast. Madeira has a lot of hills, after a long walk it is difficult to climb the last hill to the house and the stairs in it ... Room is simple, but good. Shower is not for elephants ... only for tall people.
But we are very lucky there!

Very handy location- only 5 mins walk straight up the road from Sintra station.. so quick and easy to find.
Being low season, we were the only couple staying this weekend, but were warmly welcomed by Augusto. The room was comfortable and everything very clean. There is also a comfortable common room. Unfortunately the TV was not working- sounded like they were waiting on a repair to a cable problem.
Bathroom was clean. Shower worked fine for us (better in men's than ladies bathroom) , though we can see it could have been problem with more folk there as you have to walk past shower to get to the one toilet- so not the most private set up. All very clean though.
As far as our stay it was great and very convenient.
To anyone going to Sintra for first time.. be sure to choose Quinta de Regaleira as one of the places to visit- for us this was definitely the highlight and SO interesting exploring the gardens there! (We walked it from the hostel .. 20-25 mins pleasant walk)
