Stayed at the Welcombe Hotel on Orr's Hill in Trincomalee overlooking the sea. The hotel was fully occupied with people visiting the district on work missions. I was given a room in an old, renovated bungalow a short walk away from the main hotel building, which was designed in the shape of ship's bow. A small four post bed, from the colonial era, a desk and chair and a TV with a couple of local channels was the only furnishing in the room. Hot water showers was more of a luck, than a regular feature as the water was being heated by a solar-powered heater. Though there was a nice dining room in the bungalow, the hotel unfortunately did not serve meals there and so I had to go to the restaurant, which was also nice with outdoor seating overlooking the sea.

Kuala Lumpur Guesthouse review: 41 Berangan
Stayed here for a night in November. Nice place. Ideal for a short stay in the city where you spend most of your time out in the city. Friendly and helpful staff.
Langkawi Hotel review: Langkawi Boutique Resort
I stayed at Langkawi Boutique Resort for a night. It was alright for an overnight stay and for the price.
The rooms are located in buildings located a little bit of distance behind the reception and restaurant block. We were offered the hotel van to drop us at our block after checking in. Thereafter, we had to walk up to the reception desk.
The rooms are large, air-conditioned and have large comfortable Kingcoil beds but the rooms seem to be in want of maintenance. Also, the rooms are a bit isolated and there are no telephones in the room. In case of emergency, there is one intercom on the ground floor of each building to call the reception.
However, it is on a central location in the Pantai Cenang area and it is alright for short stays.
Melaka Hotel review: The Baba House
I stayed at the Baba House for one day during my visit to Melaka. I liked the house architecture and the inner courtyard eating area for breakfast which was lovely.
It is also located in the heart of the historic city and on the road parallel to Jonker Walk street so ideal for walking around.
The rooms on the lower end of the price scale are very small and basic but good for overnight or short stays where you will be outdoors most of the time. The larger rooms are much nicer though and to be considered for longer stays.
