Budget Accommodation in Italy ??

Could any one give me an idea - of safe and budget facilities in Rome, Florence, Milan and Venice ?
I have been searchin the net but not have not really found some thing reliable .... or should I say - appealing in terms of value for money in strictly "budget" limitations.
Would any body help with suggestions ?
