Chicago to London--the first step

And we’re off! I am writing this from a 777 over the Atlantic Ocean. This morning was a bit hectic, as our flight left at 9:00. Being an international flight, the passengers are supposed to arrive 2 hours ahead of time. We put the kids to bed in their clothes last night to minimize the delay of getting them out of the house, but grandparents who love to spoil us with doughnuts and lengthy prayers of blessing managed to delay things a bit anyway, as did the morning traffic. Everything went very smoothly as we checked our bags (only one was over 50 pounds, and that was easily fixed), encouraging the children to be nice to the airport employees who doubtless have to deal with grumpy, impatient people all day long. Happily we had been able to reduce our luggage to one suitcase and one carry-on bag per person, although Andrew had a little trouble managing them both! We then went through airport security, got our shoes and stuffed animals x-rayed (weird), and strolled down the hallway
