We needed to figure out where to go after leaving Bangkok. Top marks to our travel advisor (Alana M) who gave us the low down on our three top choices. Phuket - full of resorts and caters to, “middle aged tourists and old German men looking to hook up with young Thai girls.” Not really our thing. Koh Phi Phi – gorgeous but cost prohibitive to stay on the beach and no hospital (one of our criteria given our previous eye infections). Koh Lanta – great beach, not too expensive, has hospital. Looks like we have a winner! Dave booked us on flights with Air Asia.

I'm going to digress now for a bit. A few months before we left for Bali, I came across a family (the Rymans) from Ottawa on a Lonely Planet message board. They were also planning a similar trip with their kids (6 and 9 years) but going to Malaysia, Cambodia and India as well as Bali and Thailand (not in that order).
