Starting Out

I know it's too early to being writing anything important, or even travel related in this blog as we have yet to leave the safety of Manitoba but I might as well get a handle on this whole process before I enter a technological twilight zone.

Excited, sure: Nervous, not at all. People are constantly haranguing us about going to a country where the political landscape fosters a rumours of coups and misdirected violence. I am tired of having to explain that we're still going, that it doesn't matter, etc etc etc. The violence and political upheaval that currently grips Thailand is targeted at a very limited, select group of people. No foreigners are being targeted, mainly because Thailand loves the money that tourists bring in and any attack on foreigners would CRIPPLE the economy; hell, the stranded tourists were being given food, water, and blankets during the protest at the airport by the protesters.

How is the violence there different from the violence that I may encoun
