At first, I had always thought Mauritius was a tiny island, not much bigger that Bora Bora in the South Pacific... Just a few weeks berfore taking off, I browsed the Net to find some informations about the Island and the places to visit, and found that is was crowded with more than 1.2 millions people!! and about the size of the Island of Corsica (south of France)!! The flight from Paris was a direct flight, non stop...;I thought we had to make a stop in St Louis in "la Reunion" then swap plane for a tiny one...... We landed in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius in our big Air France jumbo jet!!! what a surprise.
We were in July, it was supposedly the Austral Winter Time.
I had lived in the South seas for a couple of years back in Year 2000 at the turn of The Century (check my other blog www.tahitiblues.blogspot.com), and winter in Tahiti just meant air ans water temperatures about 2 or 3 Celcius degrees below Summer temperatures!!!
