Today we were up in time (yay!) The main attractions today were Stonehenge and Bath.
We took a bus to Stonehenge first, which was about a two-hour drive. It looks just like the pictures. I was quite disappointed that we were unable to go close to it. It is now roped off so that the closest you get to it is about 20feet. This is because people began to etch their names into the stones, including some famous people—John Keats, Charles Dickens…I did get the audio tour; it would have been boring without it. The stones were brought, at first, all the way from Wales by very tiny settlers. Later the area was rebuilt with 40-50ton sandstone from nearly 20 miles away. It was first built at the same time as the construction of the pyramids began. One of the most surprising things was the stones you see standing are only about 2/3 the entire stone—1/3 of the stone is buried beneath the ground.
