Paris Hotel review: Hotel Andre Gill
After reading some not so impressed reviews of this hotel, I was slightly dubious about booking but for the purpose of my trip this was perfect. I travelled with my boyfriend and we both found the hotel perfectly welcoming.
We arrived a little earlier than anticipated but followed the directions given on our confirmation and found the hotel easily. It is exactly where it say, halfway up a sidestreet, down a dead end cul-de-sac. The owner was lovely, welcomed us warmly and we were allowed to our room straight away. We were on the 6th floor, but there is a lift to take you to the fifth and then it is a short flight of stairs to the 6th. Lift isn't for the faint-hearted as it is so tiny that you can barely turn around but it saves a fair but of stair climbing!
Our room was perfectly clean upon arrival, complete with a little shower room and sink. The toilet was shared between the members of the floor, but this didn't cause any problems as it was only down the corridor. We could see the top dome of Sacre-Coeur from our window.
Beds were comfortable, although a little saggy in the middle but this didn't seem to hinder any sleeping!
Water pressure in the shower was a bit temperamental as it often just stopped working, only to come back once it was turned off and turned on again.
Breakfast was served in a tiny room with an at seat service. For each person, there is a glass of fresh orange juice, a piece of baguette and a croissant along with a choice of tea or coffee - nothing marvellous but sets you up for the day.
My only negative about this hotel was the fact that the cleaning seemed to be done at odd hours of the day. Despite our room being clean when we arrived, we were still disturbed by the cleaner during an afternoon rest - who just knocked and entered without waiting for a response. This also happened on the last day we were there too.
I would completely recommend this hotel to people who are looking for a base for activities and are going to be spending most of their day out and about in Paris as we did!
