Siem Reap Hostel review: Siem Reap Rooms Guesthouse

Stayed at Siemreaprooms gh quite by accident as I was actually staying in the Fivestarangkor guesthouse that was previously run by the owner Phil, but the fivestar was totally flooded by typhoon Ketsana so Phil transferred us to this new place of his which he is calling Siemreaprooms guesthouse (he still did not have the new sign up when I left).

Apart from the flooding disaster I could see why Phil was moving location. Siemreaprooms gh is much newer with nice bathrooms, very clean rooms, and with a nice living area at the front of the place (Phil had plans to do a bar and restaurant at the front but at the time I was there he had not got around to doing it yet).

Overall: The location was fantastic, very clean, great value, needs more facilites but great service.

Location: Location was fantastic, and it took me only 3 minutes to walk to the Old market and centre of town.

Cleanliness: Very clean rooms, very clean reception and lobby area, linen very clean and bathrooms very clean.

Value: I paid 8$ for a single fan room which I thought was excellent value for the location and service.

Facilities: It did lack services such as restaurant and bar but then again it had just opened and I think it opened unexpectantly. Old market and pub street are so close so maybe I would probably not of used the restaurant even if they did have one.

Service: The service was great, Phil was very helpful with great information, staff were helpful, Ty my tuk tuk driver was great and a good laugh. Friendly atmosphere as well.

I would definitely recommend this place to friends.

Siem Reap Guesthouse review: Fivestar Angkor Villa & Tours

I stayed here in August 2009, and you can read my review below for my stay during that time.

I returned to Siem Reap at the end of September 2009 as I enjoyed my time in Siem Reap so much. I decided to come back to Five Star Angkor as I enjoyed my time there so much. Unfortunately, the day after I arrived the place was hit by the tail end of typhoon Ketsana which hit the guesthouse hard, and the place was totally flooded and we had to move out to other accommodation which Phil the owner was great at sorting out in such short notice. He actually had another place around the corner which he was in the process of setting up which he sent some of his customers too along with another place his friend runs.

Apart from the flooding on the ground floor, the rooms on the upper floor were not affected, so all in all it is still a good choice for a place to stay especially as it is so close to Old market.

I have heard since from Phil that the place is in full operation again, although Phil no longer runs the place as he now runs his new place around the corner called seim reap rooms guesthouse.

Previous stay: August 2009

A great place with a great atmosphere. The location could not be much better and it was only a short walk to the Old market area which was great.

The guesthouse itself was clean enough although the building was slightly old but the atmosphere the owner Phil, the staff and the service made up for that. The service was great and the facilities were ideal for the budget type rooms with free wifi and free internet 24 hours a day.

Free breakfast was included in the room price and although it was simple it was nice to have before you started the day.

I plan on going back later in the year so will post again after might next stay there. So overall it is hard to beat. Stayed August 2009.

Siem Reap Hotel review: Palm Garden Lodge

I stayed here after reading all the good reviews on travellerspoint but i must admit I was little disappointed but maybe I was expecting to much from the raving reviews.

The staff were friendly enough, the rooms were clean enough and overall it was not bad value. However, it was a lot longer than a 5 minute walk to the centre and it was long a muddy dirty road which was not great to walk along. It was more like a 5 minute tuk tuk ride!
