The Wrap-Up

Posted by jenniesue | 12th October 2009

Four months, thousands of miles, and thirteen countries. My European adventure was absolutely amazing and the trip of a lifetime! I really had an incredible time, and so many interesting adventures. I have now been back in the states for about a month and have had some time to reflect on my journey. Here are some random thoughts and ruminations.

Favorite Places
The first question everyone asks: "What was your favorite place?" I can honestly say that I loved everywhere I visited. There really wasn't a place that I didn't like. Each place was a little different, and of course some were bigger highlights than others. I haven't been able to pick a favorite place, but I have managed to narrow it down to five, in no particular order.

1) Paris -- Paris is just a lovely, lovely place. It is a city that is filled with beauty and elegance. I really enjoyed just walking around the city and exploring the neighborhoods. I also loved the sites -- the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvr

Madrid Hostel review: RC Miguel Angel

A nice hostel located on the 4th floor of a building right off of the Plaza Del Sol. Short walk to subway at Plaza del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real. On a nice pedestrian street with lots of restaurants, bars and shops. Rooms were clean and modern with lockers for each bed and ensuite bathroom. Great value for location. I would definitely stay here again!

Barcelona Hostel review: Centric Point Hostel

Great hostel! It is quite large and does feel a little institutional, but rooms were very modern and roomy. Large bathrooms are located in the hall and were very clean. Staff was professional and helpful. There is a large common room where breakfast is served, as well as computers with pay internet access. The location was great -- on the corner facing the "block of discord" and a short walk to Las Ramblas and the historic part of town. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it as a great value to other travellers.

Nice Hostel review: Hostel Smith

This was easily the worst hostel I stayed in during my travels in Europe. The only good thing about it was the location, which is fantastic. It is located in the old town and is a short walk to the market and the beach/boardwalk. This hostel is basically an apartment that has been converted to a hostel, with 15 beds stuffed in each room. The bathroom was not clean and I elected not to shower while staying here because the shower was scary. There was a common room with kitchen facilities and a large TV. Internet was supposed to be free, but it did not work at all during my stay. The owners were very nice and tried to fix the problem, but it never helped. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to others.
