Nagano Hostel review: Chuoukan Shimizuya Ryokan

This Ryokan which is owned by an elder Japanese couple is lovely and quaint with many up, downs and nooks and crannies. As soon as we arrived we were taken to our room and treated to Japanese tea. The room was spacious and very clean. Although there are common facilities you do have a washbasin in the balcony section separated from the sleeping area.

The location is excellent, with a bus stop right outside and many food choices scattered all around. We loved the Oyaki with green veggies and pickles from the little village as you head towards the temple. It can be a little tricky to find so look for the little restaurant attached to the shop selling teapots and such.

Please consider staying here if you are stopping in Nagano as it only adds to the experience.
