Cusco Hotel review: Hotel Don Carlos Cusco

We loved Hotel Don Carlos. It is a true hotel - yes hairdriers, room service, cable TV etc. We got a great rate booking through this site and it was so nice having a very comfortable place to stay before and after our trek.

The rooms are really nice, spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Breakfast is a huge buffet and they will also cook you things fresh if you want things like fried eggs rather than scrambled. The restaurant also makes great food for dinner.

One of my friends wasn't well there and they were very helpful. They organised great room service on the days she wasn't well and checked on her to make sure she was ok.

Only negative is that their laundry service is very expensive so get it done somewhere else.

Tupiza Guesthouse review: La Torre

La Torre was a really good hostel. The rooms were comfortable and clean and they provided a really good substantial breakfast.

The hot water can be problematic in the mornings because it can get so cold in Tupiza that the pipes freeze but we never had a problem getting good hot water in the evening.

They offer tours of all the surrounds and we went on an excellent horse tour of the area that they organised for us.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They can exchange US dollars which can be useful because there are no ATMs in Tupiza and the bank is only open limited hours.

Only negative was our room didn't have any external windows and the internal window was onto the stairs so you heard everyone coming up the stairs during the night. Still nightlife isn't huge in Tupiza so it wasn't bad.

Salta Hostel review: Las Rejas Hostel

We loved Las Rejas. It is such a cute place, a big renovated house and was so comfortable. The beds were good, bathrooms spotless. Hot water was a bit slow but always there and really hot.

It is family run and they were so helpful. When our heater didn't work (yes there are heaters in the room) they went out of their way to fix it for us quickly.

The location is just a couple of blocks from the city centre so really convenient.

Breakfast is excellent - they will even make you fresh expresso coffee. For more great food, head to Toti's (I think) on the corner. We ate there heaps it was brilliant.

I would definitely recommend staying at Las Rejas.
