Athens Hotel review: Aristoteles Hotel

Unfortunately we were staying at the Aristotles At the same time as a busload of German teenagers and their behaviour has clouded our opinion of the hotel. The manager tried very hard to get the leaders of the school group to keep them quiet but the noise, shouting and banging of doors all night does nothing for the reputution. It was very clean with a good bathroom and comfortable bed. The view out of the window was the crumbling back wall of a neighbouring property. The hotel is very handy to the station and an easy walk to many of the cities attractions. Would we recommend it? Yes, if you could guarantee that it would not be overrun by some of the most obnoxious teenagers we have ever come across.

Barcelona Hotel review: Medium Monegal

We transferred to this hotel after landing in a squalid hostel the night before. For the same price we had a beautiful room with ensuite at the back of the hotel which was very quiet for somewhere right on La Ramblas. It had a great view and was only a few steps from the Metro. It is a great base for anyone wanting to explore Barcelona on foot, surrounded by good restaurants and only a few minutes walk to the market. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or recommend it to others.

Venice Guesthouse review: Invenice

Apart from a reasonable price and handy location near the railway station we couldn't really recommend this property. The room was not ready when we arrived and we had to wait while the young lady who met us outside cleaned it "very slightly" leaving a pile of "dust bunnies" lurking under the bed. At least we know the bed sheets were clean. The shared bathroom was interesting though none too clean with the toilet in the shower, ideal for mulltitasking. Our room had a glass panelled door leading to the foyer and for privacy had a tablecloth stapled over part of it. Needless to say when the occupants of the other room across the foyer turned the lights on in the early hours of the morning and had a chat and used the bathroom they may as well have been in our room! There was a TV but nowhere for it to plug in.
