Sydney Hostel review: Alfred Park Budget Accommodation

This was the first hostel I stayed in, in Australia. I'm glad b/c I didn't have any others to compare it to and realize the difference. It wasn't really good, nor was it really bad. The rooms were standard and clean. The common areas like the kitchen and bathrooms were pretty messy and in need of a remodel. As for the service, Val (the manager?) was pretty knowledgeable on the city and transportation. The problem was that he always seemed too busy help you with any of your questions or issues. It also felt pretty far from downtown Sydney and I ended up doing a lot of walking. The one nice thing is that they did offer free pickup from the airport with a 3 night stay.

Cairns Hostel review: Cairns Girls Hostel

I stayed here about 2 or 3 weeks ago for 4 days. I enjoyed the inexpensive prices and the friendly and helpful ladies who ran it. Compared to other hostels I've seen, this one was extremely neat in its common areas and bedrooms. The hostel is located in an old building off to one side of Cairns downtown area. It is a quieter hostel due to the fact it is one gender, outside of the main area of town and has a firm policy on noise. I for one enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, which allowed me to recover from day trips and diving. My two critiques are that it was a little far from the city center and that they needed more than 4 shower facilities for 60-70 girls. Other then that I had a wonderful time!

Port Douglas Hostel review: Global Port Douglas

Global Port Douglas is a fairly new hostel.. The common areas like the kitchen, living room and bathroom were all modern and clean. The rooms were your standard compact hostel rooms. The beds only had a sheet to sleep under, but it was hot so I didn't mind. It has a great location right in the heart of Port Douglas's quaint main street. The hostel is on top of a restaurant and has nice views of the surrounding street and sky. The staff was young, helpful and friendly. I wish I could of stayed longer to enjoy the beaches and city!
