Vancouver Guesthouse review: Vancouver Backpacker Guesthouse

We had just arrived from NZ and were booked into this Guesthouse for two nights with our son his wife and 3 children who had driven from St Albert to meet us. We were all very disappointed when we saw it. It is a shabby old house[curtains and blinds falling off the windows] with two very small kitchen/dining areas,one upstairs and one downstairs.We ate out rather than cook and eat there. The downstairs toilet did not function properly so the used toilet paper had to be put into a rubbish container next to the toilet. The rooms we used for sleeping were very hot with no air conditioning.There was no lounge apart from an area downstairs that was full of someones household contents and couldn't be used. The photos advertising this place are deceiving.The young asian couple who were either managing it or owned it,[we were never sure]assurred us it was good value and they were all like a happy family. However my husband and I were booked to stay there three weeks later for a couple of nights and cancelled our booking.We were given our deposit back.We have stayed in a number of Backpackers in the UK and found them all very good in comparison to this one.Perhaps we expected too much!
