About steff:

Since the travelbug caught me about 10 years ago I have backpacked through North- and Southamerica, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast-Asia and have also been to lots of countries in Europe. Travelling is my greatest passion! But until I can head off again, I'm truly enjoying my time in wicked Berlin!

"...Once you start, all you can think of is being a waitress in a Paris bistro, writing a novel in Melbourne, drinking Gin & Tonics in a smoky bar in New York, or lying on a sunny Thai beach. Once you begin, you are no longer afraid to go for it. And if you could afford it, you would throw aside all your responsibilities and go where the wind would take you. You could easily be talked into catching the first plane to Guatemala and selling beads on the street. Or at least you believe this now. And this is the feeling of excitement about somewhere foreign..."

Steff goes West, actually North first

Posted by steff | 23rd July 2006

I’m back in cold Melbourne and apologies for being so slack and not writing on my blog once during the time I was travelling in Western Australia. But honestly it was really hard to find Internet cafés with decent prices and I just had too much to do and see instead of spending my time in front of a computer.

But here I go and I don’t blame you if you stop reading at a certain point, because this is probably going to be a long, long story. Unfortunately my journey was only five weeks long but I enjoyed almost every minute of it!Maybe you can just browse through the pictures to get a visual impression of it.

After having successfully finished my first semester at Melbourne Uni I took off on my own in the middle of June to travel mainly in Western Australia as I hadn’t been there before. I arrived in Darwin in the middle of the night, but luckily I could stay with Susi & Ken, friends of a good friend of mine in Melbourne. I had only spoken on the phone once to them and we had neve

Zadar Guesthouse review: Kolega Guesthouse

We initially booked two nights at Kolega guesthouse due to the great reviews it got and were not dissapointed. Everything was perfect: the location in the middle of the old town, the room, well-equipped kitchen, bathroom (which you share with 2 other rooms), free internet, etc. On top of that Marin was extremely friendly and helpful and we were quite sad when we couldn't stay longer than the two days we had booked. However, Marin found us another place to stay, which was fine but Kolega guesthouse is the best ;).

Split Guesthouse review: Peruzovic Rooms

Peruzovic rooms are in a perfect location if you want to stay near the old town of Split and the studio apartment we stayed at was great value and super clean (only a little dark if you stay for longer). Frane the owners son is a friendly young chap who's studying Tourism and he was very helpful with all the questions we had. Since we touched the bishop's toe when we were in Split we will go back and would definitely stay at Peruzovic rooms again. A great choice!

Dubrovnik Apartment review: Apartment Gordana

Staying at Apartment Gordana is like staying at a friends' place. We were welcomed by Gordana and her sister Doris with juice and home-made cake and Doris went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. She dropped us off in her car twice when we had to get the bus/ferry and we did not hesitate to stay an extra night, when we returned to Dubrovnik. The place is indeed a little hard to find initially (take Bus No. 8 from the harbour and walk up steep steps), but once you're there it's very conveniently located between the harbour and the old town. We would certainly stay again and therefore can only recommend Apartment Gordana to other travellers!
