Citizenship: NetherlandsMy husband Tom and I after 34 years of marriage and raising our three children Tony, Mieke and Nikki are taking a sabbatical, or maybe returning to "ordinary life" by taking off on January 1, 2009 for a full journey around this great earth.
Wish us well. Leaving is hard even while looking forward to visiting places we have yearned to see.
Obviously traveling. Hiking! Reading good books while soaking in a hot tub. Long, quiet walks while the sun is rising. Swimming, boating. Listening and singing out loud to my music while driving down the road.
I am allergic to country music.
The hike in the Haleakala Crater on Maui. Greece, Amsterdam, The Stott's holler, Greers Ferry Lake, Buffalo River Arkansas, Peggy's sanctuary.

Many evenings these past ten days I had the best intent in removing myself for a couple of hours and write about our happenings in Holland, however as you may have noticed it did not happen. It is difficult to find time when every minute has been so enjoyably spent reacquainting with family and a country we both hold dear. That and the long days, it stays light until nearly 11.00pm and if there is a sun and a barely double digit temp. the Dutch remain outside until the very last light fades.
Renting a car in Triers was a great decision and gives us the opportunity of seeing the sights and taking routes not on maps. The price of gasoline is high, close to $8.00 a gallon but the distances are not and less than half a tank was consumed while traveling through 5 countries. Crossing the borders in Northern Europe is somewhat anti -climatic. Small blue signs, bordered by yellow stars announce you’re entering a new country in the language of the country you are departing. Rome Hotel review: Cesare Balbo Inn
This place is safe , central and very unique. All what we needed and looked for in Rome. We liked and trusted it so much that we left most of our luggage here while traipsing off to Florence and Cinque Terre for a week and Glenn had our belongings waiting upon return . Glenn is very informative for your bus/sightseeing needs.
Good stay and one of the best we have encountered so far on our trip around the world.
New Delhi Guesthouse review: Aashiana
We can honestly say that after 4 months of traveling around the world our stay at Hotel Ashiana was by far the worst. We would love to know where the room is, shown on the web site, probably no where close. The room and especially the bath room was filthy. Fleas inside the bathroom, more than likely thanks to the pigeon whose nest was in the window. No hot water and very unfriendly and unprofessional staff, especially the receptionist. The hotel is not advisable for women since you will be treated with distain.
Kathmandu Hotel review: Hotel Kathmandu View
We spent a total of 6 days in the Kathmandu View Hotel in early April and had a great experience thanks to great service offered by owner Bishnu Pandey and his staff. We booked a trek through the hotel as well as a three day stay in Chitwan Park. Kathmandu view became our home base. Thanks Bishnu for the hospitality you shared and the tips in getting around.
