Nagano Hostel review: Chuoukan Shimizuya Ryokan

Perfectly positioned between the exciting town of Nagano and the awesome temple of Zenkoji, this was our favourite ryokan during our 3 week stay in Japan. The delightful couple who run it were welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed the best, tastiest Japanese breakfasts while we were here. A very interesting building with stairways and passages to explore, a clean spacious room with the fresh smell of tatami mats, relaxing bath and facilities to do laundry. I travelled with my husband and teenage daughter but I would recommend Shimizuya to any traveller of any age.
