Bologna GUESTHOUSE review: B&B Pratello
The B&B Pratello is on a narrow street full of restaurants and bars all with a fun, casual vibe. It's about a ten or fifteen minute walk to the main square. The room and bathrooms were exceptionally clean. When our fan broke (during a hot spell), they went out and bought a new fan before nightfall--very helpful and appreciated. All told, we would be happy to stay there again.
Braga HOTEL review: Truthostel (ex-Residencial Avenida)
Absolutely lovely people (mother and son) running the hostel, answering our questions with patience and enthusiasm. We loved our room, with a balcony overlooking the street. There is also an attractive-looking common room though we did not use it. The location cannot be beaten for convenience though you have to be willing to put up with some very loud, late-night (through the night, actually) music in the nearby square.
Porto GUESTHOUSE review: Atum Guest-House
Pedro is a nice and helpful host, sending information to us in advance of our stay. The accommodation is on the fourth floor of an apartment building (no elevator) a bit north of the historic centre (about a twenty minute walk but also near a metro station). The room is basic but pleasant, and there is access to a kitchen and narrow balcony/patio. It feels quite a bit like staying at someone's home, which in this case you are!
Leeds Hotel review: The Old Vicarage
As the name indicates, it's in an old vicarage, so it's charming and quaint but also creaking a bit. The cleanliness is just so so. Most importantly, it's not actually in Leeds, so if your intention is to visit Leeds, you'll be taking taxis unless you have a car. There really isn't much in the area of the hotel, so again, this could be a problem unless you have a car. The breakfast a great--in a nice room and complete with cereal, toast, and/or the full English breakfast experience.
Lyon HOTEL review: HOTELO
I haven't placed five stars in every category for many hotel reviews, but I can't find any fault with this place. It's clean, in a convenient location (though you will probably take a taxi in from the train station), and rather elegant for a budget hotel. The staff are very helpful, and the breakfast is charming. Very good on all counts.
Naples GUESTHOUSE review: B&B Cinquestelle
The owners are a lovely couple, very friendly and helpful. We really felt at home here. It's not a quiet area with traffic on one side and a lot of people talking through open windows on the other, but it's Naples, and we enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere. It is close to the train station and so is in an area that is dirty and, well, gritty, but again, this is Naples. When we go back, as I'm sure we will, we would be very happy to stay here again.
Rome GUESTHOUSE review: B&B Pablo
Very clean but one of the smallest rooms we've seen and with the window looking out into a service area. The staff was usually quite helpful, but on another occasion, my inquiry as to how the rooms safe worked resulted in no more than an offhand reply that it didn't--kind of amusing but a little surprising. The location is great--fairly close to the train station without being right in the area and within walking distance (for us) of virtually all the sights, excepting perhaps the Vatican. It's quite good if you can cope with a very small room.
Dijon HOTEL review: Kyriad Dijon Centre
Exceptionally clean, lovely room, very friendly staff, and very near the train station--you can hear the boarding announcements from your hotel window. It's not right near the "attractions," but Dijon is small enough that this isn't a problem. This was one of my favorite hotels on a recent trip through Europe.
Amsterdam GUESTHOUSE review: Edwin's Art Guesthouse -former Downtown Guesthouse
A lot of fun in a very convenient location. The guesthouse is basically a couple of rooms in someone's home with his room on the main level and the rooms and shared bathroom up some steep and narrow stairs above. The landlord is very helpful and very friendly--it really did feel like staying in someone's home, and for us that was great. I'd definitely stay there again.
Athens HOTEL review: Tempi Hotel
Very basic hostel-style accommodation but very clean and a great location. It was also very quiet! The staff were uniformly helpful and nice. I'd definitely stay there again!
