Bangkok HOSTEL review: HI-Sukhumvit
Close to the MRT so it is easy to get to all sorts of places. Great vibe and friendly people - lots of people who keep coming back so thats a good sign. Clean and airconditioned which makes it great value for money. Local food vendors outside and super markets and massages on the same street. Had a laundry on the rooftop which is excellent cause getting your laundy done can be difficult in Bangkok. Only a one computer was working and it was slow but otherwise it was a great place to stay. Heaps on information on how to get to other parts of thailand and the chill out space on the roof top is excellent!
Patong Beach HOSTEL review: Dive Den
A really lovely hostel which is really close to the shopping centre and Patong Beach. Patong is a few minutes walk but is really easy. The shopping centre obviously has everything you could possibly need, a host of restraunts, shops and movie theatres. There is a local market across the street as well as the fresh food market next door (but far enough away not to smell!) They clean your room everyday which is nice, we had a tv and a huge fridge with our own bathroom as well so it was just like a hotel. There isnt internet, but it is easy enough to find, and no kitchen but food is everywhere nearby. The lady at the front desk is extremely helpful and polite. Great location, great friendly staff and excellent value for money.
Bangkok HOSTEL review: Discovery Lodge
OMG! Negaitve reviews needed. We were scared to stay here. In the middle of nowhere and very diseaving. Even the taxi driver asked why you stay here! We were ment to be collected from the airport but no show - we got an angry phonecall from the owner asking where we were 2 hours after our plane landed. The room didnt lock properly and was beyond disgusting. 70's porn film getup. The location was terrible - and the resisdents nearly were scary as hell. we stayed 20mins - enough time to check into the hotel next door - not recommended - and then move to much better accommodation the next day. Discovery lodge means - you will discover your belonging gone the next day!
Chiang Mai HOSTEL review: Gongkaew Chiangmai Home
FANTASTIC! Hidden away in the streets of Chiang Mai - only a short walk to most of the major facilities the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is trouble. So accommodating and very tranquil. The rooms are basic but extremely clean. Free internet, tea, coffee and toast all day it is great value for money. You can book every activity under the sun from the front desk. they have fridges with cool drinks at bargin prices and the place is set like a mini resort away from the hustle and bustle of chiang mai - its was great!
Washington, D.C. HOSTEL review: HI - Washington DC
We stayed here over christmas after numerous stops throughout the USA. This is by far the worst hostel we stayed in during our entire 3 1/2 month trip. The staff were beyond rude, incredibly unhelpful and quite frankly could not care less. There were no activities organised for christmas, even though numerous other visitors asked for this as there were no facilities open in the surrounding area - the other visitors ended up organising something themselves. The lifts were slow, the rooms were ridiculously hot and to top it all off we got bed bugs! Oh, and the staff couldnt have been any ruder about the whole experience. We were made to feel like filthy vermon for getting bed bugs and they refused to help us in any way. We had to wash our entire contents - at cost to us - before we could move rooms - and it was nearly midnight before we were told this - consequently we had to sleep in the lounge room. After asking for a refund for the nights accommodation - we were told it was not their policy - even after we explained the circumstance they still refused. To top it all off while we were trying to negotiate a refund the cleaners stole our clothes from the laundry as they used the same laundry to wash their uniforms and the bedlinen from the hostel! WOULD DEFINATELY NOT RECOMMEND - UNLESS YOU WANT PERMANENT SCARS!
