Kuching HOSTEL review: Saramo Hostel
The place is very good value being near the center, not in the heart of the city as they claim, and not strategically located at all, providing a simple breakfast, coffee toasts and jams, and a single room with noisy A/C for RM30, but I doubt the integrity of the management: they promised me by email a free pickup from the airport at 9:15pm, this pickup did not materialize, and they told me somebody highjacked their email, I do not believe them, in any case anybody should consider their email as unreliable.
Twizel HOSTEL review: High Country Lodge & Backpackers
First of all, if you want to go to Mount Cook, do not go Twizel with nakedbus, go straight to Mount Cook instead. There is nothing to do at Twizel, I just relaxed there and that was all.
The place claims to have a swimming pool, I did not see it, so if it is important to you, call them ahead to check
Queenstown HOSTEL review: The Lab Queenstown
They claim to provide breakfast, but this is not true, no breakfast is available.
Christchurch HOSTEL review: Kiwi Basecamp
I visited this place at a very sad time few days after the earthquake so some facilities were not working like toilettes and showers upstairs, but the staff made a beautiful job by allowing us to have these facilities working downstairs.
They also arranged for fixing dinner for the guests. Considering the difficulties they encountered they made a hell of a job! They even gave me a ride to take the bus to reach the nakedbus stop out of town at Hornby. I recommend this hostel.
Kota Kinabalu HOSTEL review: Borneo Backpackers
Yes, clean and friendly, with free breakfast and internet access. They even picked me up at the airport!
Sandakan HOSTEL review: Sandakan Backpackers
Yes this place is right downtown at the waterfront and my room looked straight into the sea!
I recommend it.
Wellington HOSTEL review: Base Wellington
The hostel is very well located in the center of Wellington, that is the best I can say of this place. I stayed four nights at the 7th floor, but showers were unavailable, I had to go to the 6th floor to take a shower, and there were 7 dorms at my floor, plus the dorms at the 6th floor!
At breakfast they served bread well past its expiry date, they claimed it was kept in a freezer.
They try to charge six dollars for breakfast even though they claim breakfast is included, I did not payed but I had to argue with the reception to get it free all the four mornings.
And beware of the 2% surcharge if paying by credit card.
Gisborne HOSTEL review: YHA Gisborne
Friendly staff.
Rotorua HOSTEL review: Astray
Tiny room, they claim free coffee but it is only available to non budget accommodation.
Auckland HOSTEL review: The Cozy Kiwi
This hostel is very centrally located, which together with availability of a cheap single room was the only reason I chose to stay there. Bathrooms are uninspiring, to say the less, and the staff is not as friendly as they claim.
