Don Khong is the biggest of the 4000 islands (Si Phan Don) in the south of Laos

Supposedly the abode of a seven headed naga that awoke from its slumber to protect the residents of the Sandalwood city when it was invaded by the neighbouring Thais. The name, the Black Stupa alludes to the myth of the invading Siamese tearing off the gold leaf covering of the stupa and shipping it home.
We reached the village in the evening, on the outskirts on the Nam Ha NPA, and spent the night there before trekking into the forest the next day.
