This was the last sunset I saw in Laos and it was beautiful. This was the best place to see the sunset on Don Det in Si Phan Don. Did I mention you could buy booze there too?! Had such a good time with some great people there and the scenery was unlike anything I'd seen before.
The force of the water crashing through was unbelievably powerful considering the size of the falls. Ido threw a coconut shell into the swirl and it never resurfaced!
The mountains of northern Laos were a pleasure to spend 7 hours on a bus passing by. This photo was taken while on the bus and I managed to capture some other good shots of the roadside villages from out my window.
These jars date back to 2000 B.C and according to our guide were used to bury the bones of people after cremation. It was a very peaceful area but had been heavily bombed by the American Air Force during the Vietnam war. There is still a lot of unexploded ordinance left to be cleared in the region. The Americans have been too busy bombing other countries to return to Laos and clear up their bombs. So much for being a responsible superpower eh?
This is the picturesque town of Nong Khiaw where I spent 2 nights at a guest house on the river front. I had a day trip by boat to a smaller village called Tham Pha Kaew where I visited some caves.
We walked through some rice fields on our return from the Akha Hill Tribe and met some girls catching land crabs in their nets.
This was the a section of forest I trekked through on route to spend the night with the Akha hill tribe. It was a really sunny day and all in the group welcomed the stream crossings to cool us down every now and then. The area is protected and no logging is permitted. The scenery was amazing and the vegetation was unbelievably green.
