The largest national flag in the history of Chile is located in Citizenship Square, one of the most important sites in Santiago. It pays tribute to the 200th anniversary of the beginning of Chilean Independence. It's 27 metres long, 18 metres wide and is atop a 61 metre flagpole!
The bridge is designed to evoke a sense of wind as a metaphor for the enduring spirit of the dead buried around the Rewa Rewa Pa site. Its designer, Peter Mulqueen, is quoted as saying he understood that the bridge should "touch lightly" on the Rewa Rewa side of the river, in order to honour the deceased. This ruled out heavier designs.
