I'm still working on trying to identify birds, not being very successful yet...
We saw both species of quail that are found at the park this morning. These are Scaled Quail.
This is one of two species of quail that are found at Rockhound State Park, the Gambel's Quail.
This is a finch, but not sure which type. It could be a house finch, which are found here.
A Cactus Wren on a Cactus, how appropriate is that?
This was in the group campsite at Rio Grande Village.
This was on the trail approaching the hot springs.
This was at Hannold Draw, just north of Panther Junction main Visitor Center.
These were in Rio Grande Village.
These are common residents in the Rio Grande Village area at least.
There were two of these at the campground at Rio Grande Village.
There were many Cardinals at our campground at Rio Grande Village, sometimes flying right by the RV.
this bird was amazing - he was shouting out his mating call, a loud, deep booming noise. I think a bit more work was needed though as no female showed the slightest bit of interest.
I will have to keep working on this, will edit description again with correct name if possible...
I thought I had this identified, but the tail & beak didn't match. Will keep trying
Very beautiful red breast.
We stopped at a Picnic Area on Hwy 90, just a little north of Uvalde. This bird flew around the tree next to us for several minutes.
The female Cardinal doesn't have the bright red feathers, but is still a striking bird.
Several Cardinal's frequent the back of the gift shop (Trading Post) at the Alamo Village. They like to steal the cat food placed there.
