Australia Day 2008 in Sydney
Australia Day 2008 in Sydney
One of the elegant reception rooms in the Palace, Saigon.
Angkor Wat after sunrise. I managed to get up at 5.00a.m to go see the sunrise, Dad'll be surprised I was up in time! Unfortunately there was too much cloud cover to see a spectacular sunrise or sunset but the place was magical anyway.
This is the face tower of the south gate of the Bayon, Angkor Thom.
The amazing face towers on the east side of the Bayon in Angkor Thom. This is one of my favourite temples and it has some beautiful bas-reliefs and apsaras.
These jars date back to 2000 B.C and according to our guide were used to bury the bones of people after cremation. It was a very peaceful area but had been heavily bombed by the American Air Force during the Vietnam war. There is still a lot of unexploded ordinance left to be cleared in the region. The Americans have been too busy bombing other countries to return to Laos and clear up their bombs. So much for being a responsible superpower eh?
View of Tiger Leaping Gorge after completing the 28 bends of hell with a full pack on my back. Needless to say it was worth all the effort to be greeted by such breathtaking views.
Great night out in Beijing to see the tremendous skills of the acrobats.
This was located in the picturesque garden in the North end of the complex where the Emporer chose the girls for his harem. Oh, to be an Emporer!
The architecture and scale of the buildings in the Forbidden City was amazing. I spent hours wandering around inside it's great walls and admiring the temples and various buildings.
Me on the wall of the Forbidden City with Tianneman Square as a backdrop.
This is the view of Tiannamen Square from the Forbidden City South gate. Beijing is really polluted and has a haze across the sky all day long. It's a real shame because it is a beautiful city and has loads of attractions.
