ST JOHANN NEPOMUK CHURCH - Baroque Catolic Church of St Johann Nepomuk, better known as the Asam Church. It's pretty unusul and has an interesting story. St Nepomuk was built in 18th cent by brothers Asam for private use and it's connectd (share the wall) to their house. The high, narrow interior, mysteriously lit from above, is richly decorated with paint, stuccowork, sculpture, and gilt. The ceiling is decorated with painted figures ascending into a space that seems to transcend architectural boundaries.
The Church of St. John of Nepomuk in Munich (1733–46), also known as the Asamkirche in honour of the brothers Asam, is their masterwork and is an early contribution to the Bavarian Rococo style. The high, narrow interior, mysteriously lit from above, is richly decorated with paint, stuccowork, sculpture, and gilt.
St Johann Nepomuk Kirche is overdecorated everywhere. Here is the entrance into the church from the street - it sticks out as a bow.
Private house of brothers Asam - creators and owners of St Nepomuk Church. House has shared wall with church, and both facing the street.
Many interesting details outside (doors, walls, windows) and inside as well
Beautiful work - bas-relief on doors
Frauenckirhen (church of our Lady) and domo of Munuch, has long story of ages. Beautiful also inside.
Frauenckirhen ceiling - I loved it!
Baroque Catolic Church of St Johann Nepomuk, better known as the Asam Church, was built from 1733 to 1746 by the brothers Egid Quirin Asam and Cosmas Damian Asam as their private church. It is framed by the Asamhaus (Asam House) on the left and the Priest's House on the right. Overdecorated, church was built after brother's Asam wishes. Due to resistance of the citizens, the brothers were forced to make the church accessible to the public.
