This is the start of the tour. We go right, pass older signs of hotels, motels, restaurants. The lane on the left is where you end. The tour is basically a U, beginning and ending at the Jerry's Nugget sign.
End of the tour area. Riviera opened in 1955, closed in 2015. The LV Convention & Visitors Authority bought it, will tear it down and will build convention & meeting rooms plus parking.
The Golden Nugget junked this sign when Steve Wynn took control of the GN in 1973. Wynn opened the first hotel rooms in 1977. The GN was only a casino before '77. The GN is now the nicest hotel/casino downtown. The 1905 refers to when Las Vegas became a town.
My tour group at Stardust sign. Opened in 1958, closed in 2006, demolished in 07. Boyd Gaming started construction on Echelon Place and got caught in the 08 recession. Genting Group bought it and will build Resorts World, a 5,000 room hotel/casino themed for the Chinese market.
Chena Hot Springs is famous for its hot springs, but has rooms, restaurants, dog sledding, tours, etc. It is 56 miles (88K) outside of FAI. Everything is first class but the rooms, tours are out of my budget range. It is worth a visit IMO.
One of the many signs at this pull out explaining TAPS. Alaska had the highest state tax rate in the nation at 14.5% before TAPS. After the oil started flowing, Alaska became the least taxed state in the US. All Alaska residents get a royalty check each year based on how much money TAPs makes while traveling over state land.
