The monument started off as a memorial for Napoleon's Great Army in 1806. But with the fall of Napoleon and reign of King Louis (XVIII), the building was consecrated as a church (1842) devoted to Mary Magdalene. I must say, the interior looks a bit like inside the Pantheon.
