Canoeing down the Alazani river
The current of the Alazani River is rapid, but the river isn't deep and has many small bays, thanks to which it is perfect for mountain canoeing rallies and rafting. Big spinning-on-the-surface tyres are great for this purpose as well. The streams of the Alazani river turn into waterfalls at the foot of the Great Caucasus. www.pankisi.org

Golok Tibetan Maidens in Their Wedding Dresses
Golok nomads keep traditions alive by continuing to wear the traditional dowry pieces of silver such as the fine silver ceremonial bowls hung on their backs. They also keep the tradition of braiding their hair in 108 braids to commemorate the 108 books of the Kanjur sacred texts of Tibetran Buddhism. Goloks inhabit Amdo, an area of Eastern Tibet in Qinghai Province, China. We have known this particular family for the past 30 years and visit yearly.

Sunning of the Buddha
Sunning of the Buddha Festival at Ta'er Lamasery in Qinghai Province takes place each July. A huge tapestry is carried to a hillside and displayed for a few hours, ending in prayers and chanting by the monks. Then masked dancing follows. This is at the monastery where Dalai Lama was trained as a child before being taken to Lhasa to live in the Potala.
