This was the village we trekked to in Luang Namtha. It is home to 120 people, 60% of whom are children. They are pretty much self-sufficient and live on rice and vegetables that they grow, seeds and fruits from the trees, and small game they catch in the jungle. They have a generator and a loud speaker system in the village.
I went on a 2-day trek in Luang Namtha through the lush jungle and stayed overnight with a hill tribe. We met this woman in the jungle near her village along with some of her clan. She demonstrated how they spin cotton and was very nice offering some of the seeds they eat. She was shy and didn't understand why we wanted to take pictures of her. I can understand that because if I was at work and someone came in asking to take pictures of me I'd wonder why!
Prayer flags flutter in the wind as the 6000m snow mountain looms in the background.
On our way from Tiger Leaping Gorge to Zonghdian we passed this amazing natural feature in Baishuitai. The cool water was running down the soft limestone terraces and the surrounding countryside was beautiful.
This is the spot where the tiger leapt across the gorge, thus giving it its name! Another legendary tale from China.
Jeff on a huge boulder in the middle of the raging gorge waiting for us to catch up as usual! The man had more energy than the energiser bunny!
One of the many amazing views along the trek of Tiger Leaping Gorge, Sichuan Province.
Gorgeous waterfall on Tiger Leaping Gorge, Sichuan Province. Had to be pretty careful with a large drop on the other side!
Mountain goat of Tiger Leaping Gorge, Sichuan Province.
View of Tiger Leaping Gorge after completing the 28 bends of hell with a full pack on my back. Needless to say it was worth all the effort to be greeted by such breathtaking views.
These fishermen use cormorants to catch fish much like a hawker does to catch birds.
Yangshou had amazing scenery with limestone peaks rising out of the ground some 100-150m. This picture was taken from the Dragon Bridge which I had cycled to one day.
The rice terraces of Longsheng, Guangxi province are famed for their likeness to a dragons backbone.
Statue of Qi Baishi in Guilin, where he visited in 1905 on his travels around China.
The skyline looked even better lit up at night from Victoria Peak on Langtau Island.
The best skyline I've seen so far was from Victoria Peak on Langtau Island. This one's for you old man! Had a pint in your honour at the top waiting for night to fall, any excuse for a beer eh?!
This large tree was ripped out of the ground by the force of the typhoon that hit Manila. It blocked the main road until the following day when the clear-up effort started.
Some trees crashed down on the empty childrens playground in the typhoon. The kids were content with a new playground made out of the trees.
Being caught up in the typhoon was a new experience for me. It wasn't as bad as I had imagined but it left a trail of destruction and some lives were lost in the devastation. The winds reached 130 kph in Manila and people took shelter where they could find it.
Er, pretty self explanatory this one.
I spent a couple of afternoons at this beautiful pool after mornings spent scuba diving. I also took advantage of the happy hours in this spot - 2 long island iced tea's for the price of 1 (1 quid)! For those that know me you may be surprised to hear this admission!!
The magnificent palm's of the resort on a typically beautiful day.
It just doesn't get much better than this! A secluded resort with beautiful accomodation and amazing scuba-diving.
Taken from the back of a Jeepney on the way to central Manila. They are so cheap and a great way to travel if you can put up with the smells! Gotta love the names they call them and the pride in their decoration.
I took this picture whilst sheltering from the torrential downpour that lasted about an hour. I was caught right underneath the storm and the thunder rolled through the streets like a dozen planes taking off at once! The photo doesn't quite capture the amount of rain coming down, I knew I should've bought an SLR!!
