Apparently, there were NZ's oldest eels (100+ years) in these lakes, but we couldnt find any.
The scene from up above one of the lakes in Nelson Lakes park.
We stopped at a lookout point for some waterfalls and found crazy locals going off the falls in their kayaks. They would plunge off the side and pop up about 10 seconds later. Nutters.
This was the final product of our last day on the job. The tarps are layed down to reflect sun to make the bottoms of the apples red. The day before, our boss tricked us by letting us pull these tarps down each row with a 4x4. Fun. He claimed he would get some suckers to crawl in the mud to pin them down. Not so fun. Turns out, we were the suckers. The sun got you from every angle on these things. It was hot and dirty.
A bonfire to celebrate our last few days of work and Elaine's (the Scot) birthday.
No graham crackers, no hershey's chocolate, and no jet-puff marshmallows...the replacements worked pretty well.
What more could you ask for?
Thank goodness for crashlanding on a random beach
This is the beach we camped out at after staching our boat at another beach.
Lots of people down under wear big floppy hats to keep the sun off their faces and necks. We now understand why. They have been lifesavers!
We took a break on this pretty little beach before heading into the Mad Mile.
The little tractors on the right took all the paying customers to the water, and I'm sure the drivers laughed at our stubborness to save money.
This is a typical row in our orchard. The little orange dot on the end is me. The rows take about 2-3 hours to get down and back (give or take a lot, depending on how old the trees are). These trees are a couple years old.
Just shortly after we took this photo, we got to see the One Ring...forged right here in the fires of Nelson.
There are hundreds of Kiwi trees near our accomodation. I wish they were ripe so we could have midnight feasts.
A view of Wellington as we were pulling our of the harbor.
