Rochester City in New York State
This photo is taken in Niagara falls, New York side.
The International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch is a must do! This photo was taken in the storm room where you experience freezing temperatures and high speed winds imitating Antarctic conditions. There's also a small Penguin conservation project, it's worth going and seeing and supporting those little cuties!
Walk out behind the town down to the lake! Perfect for a chilly picnic even in the dead of winter.
Old snow and older pines.
On a clearer day you can see Aoraki (Mt Cook) from the bottom shore of Lake Pukaki. The lakes colour is due to the run off from the Tasmin Glacier.
Excellent snow field close to Queenstown. Definitely recommend taking a bus if you're not driving a 4WD and aren't used to driving in snowy conditions with chains. Take a tip from two 22 year olds who nearly skidded off the bloody mountain driving at only 5km/hr!
"Probably the most photographed mountain in New Zealand"
Wildlife around Milford Sound were incredible!
Do it. It's 100000% worth the money. We went with Rosco's Milfor Kayak's, which are the only operating company in winter. We stayed mostly warm and dry and the weather was spectacular, water clarity was amazing! It was an experience of a lifetime.
Couldn't have lucked out and have a better day down at Milford. Such a beautiful place, the photo's don't do it justice!
Definitely the party town of the South Island! A must for Ski-trip locations! We stayed in Nomad's backpackers which was central, affordable, nice and clean, and super fun with all the extra low-cost activities they provided (pub crawl to the Minus 5 Ice bar, anyone?).
Crossing from the west coast over to Queenstown takes you on the Haast Pass! Following the Haast river from its mouth at the town of Haast, up to it's source near where this photo was taken on the actual pass!
Franz Josef is amazing. We took the valley walk up to the terminal face, but apparently this walk is now closed. Such a pity! Next time I go I think I'll splurge and go on a helicopter ride to walk on the ice.
