This was at the same city park as the White Pelicans.
This has black legs. The Great White Heron looks almost identical, but has yellow legs and is a morph of the Great Blue Heron, not an Egret (though they are related)
This group swam together, then would all poke their heads underwater to feed.
On top off the Stubnerkogel, 2250 meters, (Bad Gastein) watching the birds of prey
The weather was decent today, but the birds seemed to still be bunched up together waiting for it to warm up. A small tricolor heron is in the middle of the egrets.
There are several of these at the campground. Also known as mules - they are a cross between Muscovy and Mallard Ducks, and like mules, are sterile.
It was very stormy today. These egrets too refuge in this protected area of the bayou.
There were several cardinals walking around the campground this morning.
Up Close and personal so to speak ! These guys were brilliant and really inquisitive
When we stopped for lunch, we found out that Terns are very good at in flight refueling!
When the terns saw us sit down for lunch, they gathered at the next table over and just waited quietly for us to get the food out.
The bird picture isn't that spectacular here, but I loved the water action contrast
Great and beautiful Birds
The White Peacock (or male Peafowl) is a recessive genetic mutation. These were at the Fountain of Youth park.
I just thought it was cute the way they had all lined up along the foot bridge railing. This was at Nombre de Dios Mission.
Somebody left off some Peafowl at the center and they've done very well there. There are machines that dispense food (for a quarter) so you can feed the birds
After driving over the Andes for the third time in less than a month we finally found some good weather and loads of opportunities for photos. One of the most beautiful drives of the trip, so far.
