This is how close we were to the beach. The small dune is man made to try to protect the island from erosion.
We have these in Oakland Bay in Shelton, WA where I live, but these were smaller. I put the quarter near the egg sack to show the size.
The mature tree's near the shoreline of a beach indicate a beach subject to erosion. But it was sure lovely!

Hunting Island is home to a maritime forest dominated by slow-growing, salt-tolerant, evergreen trees and shrubs and palmettos.
