It wasn't possible for me to take a picture of the whole 17.6 mile bridge-tunnel we crossed of course, so thought a picture of the map might help (if you can read it).
Here is where you drop down and go under the water. There are two tunnels, each one about a mile long.
This is a view of the beginning of the bridge tunnel from the Cape Charles side on the north. If you look closely, you can see the wind blowing the whitecaps.
When this bridge was completed, it greatly improved traffic between New Jersey & northern towns and Delaware, Maryland and southern towns. However, it also eliminated the economic benifits the ferry traffic had brought to New Castle.

This is the Milford Bridge over the Delaware River. We are on the Pennsylvania side, across the river is New Jersey.
