We were cycling above a slow moving river and a herd of buffalo were swimming downstream. They came out of the river into thick mud and up onto the dry bank.
We did the ride, wore the T shirts and planning more w/end bike trips.
Lots of flowers in Hanoi are sold with a protective wrapper around the bud: roses come with a newspaper cone and here they were, growing in the field with their little hats on. The field was by a very dusty road (as you can tell from the photo) but all that is washed off before the flowers are taken to the market.
I have uploaded all three of the photos I took of the brickworks - sorry - I was fascinated by them. Shame we had another 30+ km to ride or I would have cycled around the works a bit more......
These brickworks were quite extraordinary and medieval looking. We were cycling along very dusty, rutted straight roads by the side of dykes and these brickworks were strung out for some miles.
The bike was parked in Chau Tay, a beautiful pagoda tucked under a huge rock and where the KOTO had set up a 'morning tea' stop.
The Ba Vi Homestead had laid on entertainment for the riders after lunch: bamboo pole dancing, singing and dancing with bells were all demonstrated by the Dao and Muong minorities.
Athene had taken a photo of these little girls who were on their way home from Saturday morning school. I asked if I could take their picture with Athene. They all turned and pushed their bikes away. Athene and I were disappointed as we didn't understand what I had said wrong. Actually, the girls were parking their bikes very neatly out of the way and came back for their photo! They took it all very seriously but did like seeing the photos on the camera and how I could zoom in on each of them!
