Here is another pic of Rio de Janeiro's Presbyterian Cathedral, first Protestant Church in Brazil (1862). The beautiful neogothical structure was built in 1934 and stands closer to modern skyscrapers in Downtown.
First Protestant Church in Brazil (1862), the beautiful Rio de Janeiro's Presbyterian Cathedral - built in 1934, in neogothical style - contrasts with Downtown skyscrapers. Numerous vitrals illuminate its interior.
I've taken this pic when flying from Rio to São Paulo. Here we can see the place where Rio was founded, in 1565, close to the entrance of Guanabara Bay: Praia de Fora ("Outer Beach"), between the Sugar Loaf (to the left) and the Cara de Cão - "Dog's Face" (to the right) hills. Botafogo Inlet and the districts/beaches of Urca and Botafogo can also be seen.
Another pic taken from a plane flying from Rio to São Paulo: the Sugar Loaf Mountain, at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, in an unusual perspective.
A flight from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo offers breathtaking views, like this one: an unusual perspective of world famous Sugar Loaf peak (almost 1300 feet high), standing at the entrance of Guanabara Bay.
Here is another view of Corcovado Mountain (710 meters high) and Christ The Redeemer monument, taken from a bus stop. This "Number One" landmark can be seen from (almost) everywhere in town, like this street (Rua Humaitá), a very busy one.
Corcovado Mountain and Christ The Redeemer monument, seen from Laranjeiras Street. I know it's not a good pic by the technical side. Anyway, I liked the composition as a whole and decided to post it... Hope you like it!
Another pic of popular "Abricó de Macaco" (Cannon Ball) tree, found everywhere in Rio.
This is the formal name for a very popular tree in Rio's parks and streets, known as "Abricó de Macaco" (Monkey's Apricot in Portuguese, also known as "Cannonball Tree", due to the shape of it's fruits). It's original from the rainforests of north South America. As we can see in this pic, its flowers grow directly on the bark of the trunk.
Botafogo inlet, seen from Urca.
Rio's Downtown skyline, seen from the district of Urca.
Here is part of the Republic Museum ("Palácio do Catete" - Catete Palace) façade, in the district of Catete. Once the official residence of the country’s presidents, before the capital moved from Rio to Brasília, in 1960, the Catete Palace displays a significant collection of pieces of art and historical documents.
The famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, standing with arms outstretched at the top of Corcovado Mountain, can be seen from millions of windows in Rio, as the one from where this pic was taken, at Paissandu Street - known for its palm trees -, in the district of Flamengo.
The Republic Museum gardens, in the district of Catete, stand as a popular strolling place among Rio's locals and visitors, specially on saturdays and sundays.

Here is part of the Republic Museum gardens, in the district of Catete. The "Museu da República" is a historical museum, housed in a former presidential palace (Palácio do Catete). The museum and its gardens are very popular, specially on saturdays and sundays.
This is part of the lobby of the Museum of Earth Sciences, in the district of Urca. Open since 1934, the Museum has a huge collection of minerals, fossiles and historical documents on Brazil's geological history.
A nice example of Rio's neoclassical architecture (last decades of XIX Century), the "Casas Casadas" (Married Houses), in the district of Laranjeiras, were built as a multifamily residence. Today, they're going to become a multimedia cultural center.
Here we see two respectable ladies: the "Casas Casadas" (Married Houses) building and an old "ficus" tree, in the district of Laranjeiras.
Another view of the "Casas Casadas" (Married Houses), in the district of Laranjeiras. I took this pic some days after the others I've posted here about the same subject. Now, it's possible to see the contrasts between the old and the new. This building, a former residencial complex for families, in the last decades of the XIX Century, is now becoming a multimedia cultural complex.
A lion (!!!) stands at the entrance of the Earth Sciences Museum, in the district of Urca.
