The controversial windmills in Wellington. Are they worth the ugliness on the landscape.
These windmill have just gone online in the national grid. they currently produce enough power for 17,000 homes, when the field is fully operational they say they will produce enough power for 70,000 homes. Some people are complaining about the spoiling affects on the countryside and question the power figures.

This diagram (in Dutch) gives a rough explanation of how most Netherlands windmills work - they use a type of screw to pull or push water along a canal, and help to keep the sea water at a certain level (to avoid flooding farmlands). Very clever!
