The South Gate of Xi'an Jiaotong University! Known to locals as "Jiao da" (the 'da' being the english equivalent of 'uni'), the South gate is the closest to the dorms as well as many restaurants (just across the street behind this photo's perspective)
That's not the name of the street, that's what I call it. On the left you can see awnings with Coke ads on it (behind the trees and the big red banner), downstairs there is the students' supermarket where I regularly go for supplies.
The Foreign Students' Building, or one of many other translations thereof. Basically, our dormitory and classrooms!
The gardens down by the south gate, surrounded by dormitories and an exhbition/music hall.
These are the badminton & basketball courts out front of our dormitory, where you can hear people playing at all hours!
Taken on my trip to buy a bike, people working on one of the buildings on the side of the road.
On my expedition to buy a bike, I snapped this photo of one of the lovely tree-lined avenues of Jiaoda, leading from the dorms to the North Gate.
The bright, shiny turquoise one in the middle! It cost me Y170, which is less than $30AUD, and came with a lock and the basket you see on the front!
The warriors being repaired at Pit #1. Also, the site of the German student who jumped in to pretend he was a warrior!
Carnage in Pit #2 of the Terracotta Warriors!
Pit #1 at the Terracotta Warriors - the largest and most photographed of all.
A Buddhist shrine at the East gate to the Qin Shi Huang (first emperor of China) burial site. You could pick out a fortune, but we couldn't read ours.
Sarah climbing up to Chaing Kai-Shek's hiding place during the Xi'an Incident on Li mountain.
The reception room at Chiang Kai-Shek's field operations base at Hua Qing Hot Springs at Li Mountain
The Lin Tong Museum - an exhibition of pottery and bronze wares in a Buddhist monestary building
Pens, pencils, my new watch, keys, scissors, and a copy of FAMOUS which is amusingly annotated by my sister.
The cord that's hanging between the two hooks is in fact my mobile phone charger cord! It was the only thing I had that was long enough, but the two hooks that would work were only in front of the doorway - slightly inconvenient...
Last time it was a pastry with icing sugar, sausage, peas, corn, and raisins! This time it's curry beef in a deep dish, actual size of 6 inches diameter! So, not perfect... but it works, I guess!
My American friend Sarah, sitting in the cafe on campus, Easy Coffee!
A set of Victorian-style apartment buildings in the heart of well-off Gao Xin area.
The drinks corner - wine, water, iced tea, and soda. What more could you ask for! Also with two wine classes and a handy bottle opener!
