Archeological dig of the Lima Culture abandoned in 700 AD
Sign explaining how the beehive formations came to be in the Valley of Fire.
The Valley of Fire (V-F) is the oldest state park in NV. Established in 1935, the V-F covers 34,880 acres of red sandstone and sand dunes. V-F was formed about 150 million years ago. Erosion has created the formations we see today.
The Anasazi people lived in the V-F between 300 B.C. and 1152 A.D. They left many petroglyphs that are still visible today.
Many films and commercials were filmed in V-F. Some of the better known: 'Star Trek Generations', 'Transformers', 'Total Recall' and 'The Professional'.
V-F is located 50 miles North of Las Vegas, just off I-15. An easy day trip from LV.
