The English explorer Sir Francis Drake landed here in 1579 and spent five weeks exploring and making repairs on his ship, the Golden Hind.
Workers had to haul materials and supplies by hand to build the lighthouse in 1870. If you look down from the narrow ridge leading to the point, this is what you see.
A view of the dramatic scenery from Point Reyes. The beach is in the distance.
There are some California sea lions resting on the beach below.
This is a closeup of the Sea Lions resting on the beach.
Sonoma County has a park and campground here , very nice. It is in Bodega Bay, CA.
This shows the water/land combinations that form here. The San Andreas Fault lies under the area, forming the long, skinny bays.
This was one of the rock formations we saw at Sugarloaf SP. They get very mossy because of all the moisture, quite lovely.
We stopped at an overlook while driving down from the campground, I was looking across the valley, but Mom thought these rocks looked more interesting.
Stinson Beach is the first beach on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, still close to San Francisco however.
I seem to take a lot of pictures of waves crashing into rocks, doesn't take much to entertain me...
The beach is owned by the National Park Service, which doesn't charge for parking here! What a nice change from the CA state beaches...

There was a lot of this growing along Hwy 1 in the Muir Beach area on Hwy 1.
This is the small bridge and road that leads up to where my great Aunt Evelyn used to live. No one has lived in the house in a long time (it was in bad shape when she lived there more then 30 years ago.)
My great Aunt, Evelyn, was an artist. This is one of the locations near where she lived in Glen Ellen that she drew.
This vinyard is on the Jack London Ranch in Glen Ellen, CA.
